Alt="Understanding Reiki – Japanese energy healing for mind, body, and spirit

What is Reiki?

Traditional Reiki

Reiki means “universal life energy” and is a natural healing method from Japan. This energy is transferred through the gentle laying on of hands – body and mind can relax, tension can be released, and new strength is created. Reiki supports the body's self-healing powers, harmonizes energy flow, and helps to find inner balance and serenity.

The application is gentle and holistic: it works on a physical, emotional, and spiritual level and is suitable for relaxation as well as a supportive accompaniment for various ailments. Reiki can be used on people, animals, and even plants to strengthen their natural life energy.

Origin of Reiki
The roots of Reiki go back a long way to India, Tibet, and China, until the method was rediscovered in Japan at the end of the 19th century by Dr. Mikao Usui. After a period of intense meditation and fasting, he received symbols and techniques that are still used in Reiki today. From Japan, Reiki spread via Hawaii to the rest of the world.
Effect of Reiki

Reiki is a simple yet profound method of transferring life energy. Its effects can be described as follows:

  • Neutral and intelligent: The energy flows to where it is needed.

  • Holistic: Reiki works on a physical, emotional, and spiritual level.

  • Harmonious and balancing: Blockages can be released and inner balance is strengthened.

  • Inexhaustible: After an initiation, access to Reiki energy remains open for a lifetime.

Reiki degrees in the Usui system
I practice Reiki according to the traditional Usui method, which is divided into three levels:

  • First Reiki degree: Opening of the Reiki channels, direct application for oneself and others.

  • Second Reiki degree: Introduction to three symbols that deepen the effect and enable remote applications.

  • Third Reiki degree (master degree): Initiation into the master symbol and the possibility of initiating others into Reiki.

My personal journey
For me personally, Reiki is more than just a method of energy work — it is a path that has led me back to myself. Perhaps it can also become a path to inner clarity, peace, and new strength for you.
